Law Legalizing Cannabis Social Use Areas Signed by Colorado Governor

On Wednesday last week, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed off on legislation that would allow state business persons to make license applications for social cannabis use areas.

The measure permits cannabis hospitality spaces in which cannabis may be consumed on site, as well as retail cannabis hospitality and sales establishments, where retail cannabis, retail cannabis concentrate, and retail cannabis products may be sold and consumed by buyers on site in the hospitality space’s establishments.

This bill establishes prohibitions and requirements of new hospitality spaces and calls for the licensing authority of the state to promulgate rules that govern the new hospitality spaces and licenses.

Before the bill, tourists and residents could smoke recreational pot legally. However, there were only a few areas where pot smokers could take their marijuana from. Fortunately, there will be more areas from where pot lovers can smoke legally.

The law, according to the Associated Press, will take effect in 2020, pending voter’s approval.
